Trevor Lawrence is excited to see himself as a "Toy Story" character.
In addition to the live broadcast on FOX and ESPN+, Disney is adding a "Toy Story Funday Football" broadcast. It’ll simulate the game on Andy’s bedroom floor, the iconic setting from Pixar's "Toy Story" movies.
The broadcast will use state-of-the-art tracking technology and a halftime show featuring "Toy Story 4" stuntman Duke Caboom.
Pixar has come a long way since 1986 when Steve Jobs, while exiled from Apple, invested $10 million into the company.
George Lucas, who owned Pixar at the time (back then it was Graphics Group), was getting divorced and needed to sell off some assets.
Jobs had been trying to get Apple to buy Graphics Group, but the board turned him down.
As a friend, Jobs gave Lucas $5 million and invested another $5 million into the company.
Fast forward a bit – Pixar decides to go all-in on movies, starting with Toy Story, which obviously crushed it. Disney, in 2006, ended up buying Pixar for $7.4 billion in Disney stock.
Steve Jobs went from being the single largest shareholder in Pixar to the single largest individual shareholder in Disney.
Prior to the Toy Story tie-in with the NFL, in January 1985, Jobs enlisted high school students to voluntarily cover the the benches at Stanford Stadium with Apple seat covers for Super Bowl XIX.
On the verge of making millions as Apple prepared to go public, Jobs took advantage of this advertising opportunity.
