The Detroit Lions unveiled a Barry Sanders statue outside of Ford Field this weekend.
Flavor Flav was there. One of my favorite Flav quotes:
I wear my Viking helmet because the horns define how sharp my brains are. If you try to rub me the wrong way, I will stick you with both of my horns.
The Sculptors of the Barry Sanders statue are Lou Cella and Omri Amrany – both heavy hitters in the field. Quick rundown of who else they’ve sculpted:
Dirk Nowitzki
Gordie Howe
Ernie Banks
Paul Konerko
Ken Griffey, Jr.
Ken Griffy Jr. skipped college and went pro in baseball after high school. He told Dan Patrick that he had more offers coming out of high school for football than baseball – including from Oklahoma.
"I'd have probably gone to Michigan," Griffey said.
Ken Griffey Jr.’s son, Trey Griffey, was a WR at the University of Arizona.
In terms of his professional career, Trey Griffey's time in the NFL was limited. He went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft but was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts in April 2017. He also had stints with other NFL teams, including the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports
Despite signing with multiple teams and participating in various training camps and preseason games, Trey Griffey did not secure a regular-season roster spot in the NFL.
A year earlier, in 2016, there were 1,083,308 high school football players.
Only approximately 6.8% (73,660) had the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level in the NCAA.
Furthermore, a mere 2.6% of high school players were eligible to compete in Division I—the highest level within the NCAA, offering the most resources and opportunities.
Out of the 73,660 NCAA participants, only 22% (16,369) were considered Draft Eligible.
The NFL draft provided just 253 slots, a minuscule fraction of the total.
Ultimately, only 251 NCAA participants realized their dream of being drafted into the NFL, constituting a mere 1.5% of those eligible.
When considering the vast pool of 1,083,308 high school football players, a mere 0.023% managed to ascend to the professional level.

This is a great video, but the best part is the little kid sprinting to tackle Tyreek Hill with zero warning.
