I’m sure we’ll be reminded ad nauseam tonight that the Kelce brothers are playing each other. They made history last season – the first time that brothers played against each other in the Superbowl.
Not getting as much shine are the three pairs of brothers who were on the field yesterday during the Bears-Lions game:
Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell and Bears rookie linebacker Noah Sewell (first game against each other in the NFL.)
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and Bears wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (fifth time in their NFL careers.)
Lions pass rushers and brothers Romeo Okwara and Julian Okwara lined up together as usual.
Believe it or not, that’s not the first time that’s happened. The previous occurrence was Steelers-Bengals in 1979. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati played twice that year, meaning there were two games featuring:
Matt and Chris Bahr
Jim and Ross Browner
Archie and Ray Griffin
In the last 10 years, there have been 31 sets of siblings who have competed in the NFL.
This season, against the team from the City of Brotherly Love, Quinnen and Quincy Williams became the first siblings to record a takeaway in the same game since Erin and E.J. Henderson in 2010.
The Babineaux brothers also recorded takeaways in the same game in 2010 (later in the season than the Henderson brothers did it), but they were on opposing teams.
