For Christmas, Trevor Lawrence got all of his offensive linemen golf carts.
Derek Carr gave wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed Rolex watches, and he plans to give Michael Thomas a gift when he sees him. Carr got his other receivers diamond chains.
He made sure his linemen were taken care of as well, gifting them with grills and chests full of steaks.
Five years ago, during Sam Darnold’s rookie season as QB for the Jets, the offensive linemen took the front wheels off Darnold's SUV as retaliation for the poor presents. The $30-million signal-caller’s choice of barbecue utensils and a $300 gift certificate for steaks didn’t cut it.
Darnold learned his lesson. Last season when he was with the Panthers, he got all of his offensive linemen gas-powered pizza ovens.
Brady Christensen said, “I can’t wait to get that going in the backyard.”
Zach Wilson must have heard about the bad gift giving, so last year he got all of his linemen scooters.
If Rodgers comes back (and he’s likely to be medically cleared next week), his linemen better play well if they want something good. Last season, Rodgers said the best way for him to motivate the Packers’ OL to play better is threatening to restrict the gift-giving.
“I’m gonna cut way back, I’m gonna be skimping on the budget big time if this shit doesn’t turn around.”
One gift Rodgers did give last year? Signing “Merry Christmas,” on the ball that Dolphins Rookie CB Kader Kohou picked off in the end zone.
