Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey set the NFL record for most field goals made in a row to start a career at 19. He is currently sitting on 30.
It's kind of amusing that he's 30/30 on Field Goals, 10 of them being from 40+, but has missed 3 extra points.
“We’re always diagnosing mistakes immediately on the field. We had the fix (Sunday) all ready, so when it came up again, I was kind of excited for that moment instead of being nervous for it. You get to go out there and show, ‘Hey, we fixed it. It’s not going to happen again.’”
He basically said the cadence is different for FGs vs. PATs and they’ve got it figured it out now.
Aubrey played four years of college soccer at the University of Notre Dame between 2013 and 2016.
He was selected in the first round (21st overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft , but unfortuantly ended up being released in 2018.
At that point, Aubrey decided to use the degree he got at Notre Dame to become a software engineer.
While watching an NFL game in 2019, a placekicker missed a field goal and his wife told him, "You could do that."
From 2019 to 2022, Aubrey worked with a former Mississippi State kicker and kicking coach Brian Egan three times a week.
The total yards of Brandon Aubrey made in field goals last night was 164. Total yards passing for Jalen Hurts last night: 135.
Speaking of the Eagles QBs and changing sports, former Super Bowl MVP, Nick Foles, won two Pickleball Gold Medals last week at a California tournament.
He played in 3.0 mixed doubles and men's doubles. He partnered with his wife, Tori, and friend Jim Davenport, and wound up winning gold medals in both divisions.
Just to be clear, he wasn’t playing with former (and deceased) SF Giants third basement and Manager, Jim Davenport.
Growing up, Davenport had wanted to play football for the University of Alabama. However, Davenport married after high school and Alabama had a policy of not recruiting married players.
In fact, Bear Bryant had to keep it a secret when he married Mary Harmon his senior year.
Foles wasn't the only NFL alum competing this past weekend. Former wide receiver Golden Tate also competed in the men's 4.5 doubles division.
Numbers with Bet Openly
If you're betting, it doesn't make sense not to use Bet Openly. Rather than bet "against" a book, they set you up with people taking the opposite side. The benefit: rather than paying 10% tax to the book (-110) you "pay" 1% (-101).
10: Joe Flacco now has 10 wins as a starter in Cleveland Browns Stadium, tying him for the third-most by any quarterback since the stadium opened in 1999.
121.6: Zach Wilson today vs. the Texans: • 26/34 • 295 passing yards • 2 TDs • 0 INTs • 121.6 passer rating
16: Vikings beat Raiders 3-0 in lowest-scoring NFL game in 16 years
4: This will be the 4th game this year that a WR drop or a WR penalty will erase a game winning TD for the Chiefs.
Game 1: Toney drops deep ball against the Lions which would likely be a TD, or at minimum a game-winning field goal. He also had a drop that resulted in a pick 6 that game.
Game 2: MVS drops TD pass against Eagles, Watson drops (contested) 4th and 25 pass right after
Game 3: Toney lines up offside, negating TD pass
Game 4: The Skyy Moore drop against Denver was the 4th, which was really important to be fair, but not a game winner. Same with the MVS one. There would have been 2 minutes left for the Eagles.
70 [TRIVIA]: 49ers Brock Purdy just became the fourth quarterback in NFL history with a completion percentage of 70 or higher in seven consecutive games. Who are the other three?
Quotes
“He's elite. He's a dragon. I can't explain it. Man picks up the playbook, scans through it, downloads the plays and throws for 300 yards.”
Myles Garrett on Browns QB Joe Flacco
“I’ve played seven years in the National Football League and never had offensive offsides called. You want until a minute left to make a call like that? Let us play the game.”
Mahomes said he asked three refs for an explanation. Got none.
“So happy for Zach Wilson man. He has faced a lot of adversity in his young career and he BALLED OUT today. Showing why Cougar Nation loves him!”
“I'm playing for y'all. I have nothing to lose. He said, 'What's the worst that can happen, I get benched again?' That's what he said and that's the way he played. It showed."
DJ Reed said that Zach Wilson said to him this week
"You know I like toes, I don't like this toe."
